horses was won by Mr Rosa lia in three straight heats Mr Nannie being second in each Nannie acted quite unsteady breaking repeated ly but in places trotted fast and in the third heat they came down the home stretch head and head Rosalia barely winning by a neck The running race three quarter mile heats was the event of the evening and was a beautiful sight the heats being close and exciting and the time first class In the first heat Gen Custar got the worst of the send off and Mr Wil Muldoon went immediately to the front and at the half mile polo was lead ing Crosslet two lengths and Gen Cus tar a close third As they entered the home stretch they had not changed posi tions but came thundering along at a merry gait When in front of the stables Muldoon suddenly swerved unsteadying his rider somewhat and about this time jockey commenced to ply whip and spur and closing on Muldoon they make a neck and neck race for a hundred yards when the chestnut out brushing the bay wins the heat Gen Custar third Time 1:18 The second heat was a beautiful one all the way They got a good start and raced neck and neck down the back stretch and around the upper turn They entered the home stretch in close order and the racing then was fast and excit ing As they neared the stand Crosslet showed a master of the situation while Gen Custar was coming up fast His jockey having dropped a rein was mak
