What to Know

Critics Consensus

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers trades the simple, brutal effectiveness of the original for convoluted mysticism, with disastrously dull results.

James B Better than the previous films but it is so similar to the first but it's actually not that bad. It's more mysterious than it's predecessors yet some amazing kills and George p Wilbur's Michael Myers is the best. Paul rudd is also a nice face to the movie. A truly underrated Halloween. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Emilliano Jr S Bad ending for a once successful franchise. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review Ben T The sixth instalment in the Halloween franchise. By now it's a pale shadow of the original and the most bizarre. There's little to enjoy and there's a strange cult involved which really adds nothing to the story. Donald Pleasence returns for the last time. Sadly, this was also his last ever film. He died 8 months before the film was released. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Jeff M I wasn't doing cartwheels over the recent HALLOWEEN KILLS, but it's a masterpiece on par with the original compared to this utterly worthless installment - number six, I believe. There are only two things of note in this movie: it's the film debut of Paul Stephen Rudd, who would obviously drop the middle name and enjoy great future success; and it's the final appearance of Donald Pleasance as Dr. Loomis, who passed away before the film's release. It's rather sad watching him here as he is obviously frail and appears to have trouble getting out sentences. As for the film itself, it's practically worthless. It's as far away from the original horror masterpiece as day is from night. I sat stonefaced throughout. Usually even in the worst films of this genre there are at least one or two truly supenseful or inspired moments. Nothing here. And by the time we end up in a mental institution apparently run by an evil doctor wanting a baby from Michael's bloodline (I think), I had given up hope and was counting the moments till this blessedly short 88 minute movie came to an end. I have decided to watch all of the HALLOWEEN movies and their incarnations before the release of the (hopefully) final installment next year. I'm praying to the movie gods I don't have to sit through anything worse than this one. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review David C Es muy mal no le entendí por qué la vi en otro idioma y la película es bien chafa Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Willie V This film goes into somewhat uncharted territory in the franchise by attempting to mix in magical and mystic elements instead of keeping things simple and mysterious. Unfortunately, it does not work, and the departure from the regular slasher formula leads to a film that struggles to make sense of itself. The film takes characters beloved by the audience and does things that are borderline disrespectful to their characters, with unclear motivations driving these changes. However, standout performances from Paul Rudd, who is charming as always, and Donald Pleasence in his final reprisal of his iconic role, offer some entertaining moments. The convoluted plot reflects a lack of cohesive decision-making, and it's evident that multiple hands were involved in the making of the film. While the movie is watchable, it may not be incredibly enjoyable unless one can find some appreciation in the attempt to switch up the series a bit.
